This painting comes from a visit to Parkgate on the Wirral, looking out across the estuary towards the Welsh hills.
The light that evening was incredibly soft and golden. Everything felt calm, but still full of life - Canada geese calling across the marsh, the smell of fish and chips, and that huge open sky seeming to hold everything beneath it.
Using layers of acrylic, oil pastel and touches of gold leaf, I wanted to capture the warmth of that light and the hazy distance of the landscape rather than paint the scene exactly as it appeared.
There’s a stillness to Golden Parkgate that stayed with me afterwards. That particular kind of calm that settles into you without you really noticing.
An original one-of-a-kind painting, created from a moment and a place that means a great deal to me.
